In the aftermath of the catastrophic attack on New York City, when the scope of the tragic amount of carnage became known to us and the world, though there were many stories of individual heroism by rescue workers and private citizens, no single group suffered the degree of loss suffered by the New York City Firefighters, with a staggering total of three hundred forty three men. The heart and spirit of the remaining brother firefighters touched the very core of America, resulting in hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of items showered on every firehouse, including flowers, money, letters, drawings and notes from children across the country, original art, teddy bears and gifts of every description for months and months following the vicious attack. This outpouring of love has been, to say the least, overwhelming, and it is the desire of the men of the New York City Fire Department and their families to voice a public thank you to a grateful America, with a special message to the children that their voice was heard, about the power that is within them to affect change, and the courage to act in any situation. The Uniformed Firefighters Association requested the West Side Cultural Center to produce a video allowing these feelings to be expressed. In addition to broadcast, this video is to be duplicated and distributed as DVDâ€s free to schools across the country.
Note:
Obviously it is not possible to thank everyone individually, but this video thank you will carry the messages from the hearts of firefighters and families who shared in this loss. As we approach yet another anniversary, we must never forget.
